Before 20 December 2024, a new Sonic the Hedgehog 3 The film trailer shows us Keanu Reeves as Shadow the Hedgehog. The video introduces existing characters from the first three films, such as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Tom Wachowski, before going into the origin story of the new hedgehog.

It begins with Wachowski telling Sonic that he now has a family. This happens while brief clips of Tails and Knuckles, who made their debut in the second live-action film, appear. From there, we are taken to a secure facility where Shadow is created. He breaks through security and escapes. The government then calls Team Sonic to handle Shadow the Hedgehog’s escape in the film. This moment also includes a flashback to the games where Shadow is imprisoned and touches the hand of a young girl who appears to be Maria Robotnik. Dr. Robotnik’s involvement is hinted at the halfway point, and at 2:20 we can actually hear Reeves as Shadow.

We first learned about the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Film in February 2022. At the time, it was not initially revealed that Shadow was part of the film. The character’s involvement was mentioned in later teasers.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be released in theaters on December 20, 2024. The previous two films are available now and the TV show Knuckles is streaming on Paramount+.
