DNC and NFL lead in live TV viewership last week — TVREV

Welcome to our weekly TV snapshot in numbers, featuring the most watched shows and channels from August 19-25, with insights from Inscapethe provider of ACR data for current format smart TVs and Vizio’s data technology division. The data is linear, for live TV only, and includes all episode types (new episodes and repeats). Ranking is by percentage of watch time (i.e. time spent watching).

Last week’s historic Democratic National Convention had it all: passionate speakers and activists, popular actors and television personalities, musicians — and, as you probably heard, a supposed surprise guest (Is it Bey?! TayTay?!) who never showed up but may have helped boost Thursday night’s ratings. Speaking of ratings, the Democratic National Convention earned an overall rating of 4.87% across all networks this week. significantly higher than the RNC’s share of 2.96% from earlier this summer. Looking at the DNC broadcasts by specific networks, MSNBC had the highest share (1.92%), followed by CNN (1.38%).

Some more insights into the most watched television programs:

  • 2.93% of the minutes watched were for NFL preseason games, compared to 2.48% the previous week.

  • College football began on Saturday, August 24 with four Week 0 games, earning a 1.05% audience share.

  • In baseball, MLB games reached 1.80% of the minutes watched, just ahead of the Little League World Series (1.69%).

  • Including new entries in the week’s rankings compared to the week CNN News CentralC-SPAN Campaign 2024 and the NASCAR Cup Series.
