Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Match point), Ashley Greene (The Twilight Saga), Thomas Kretschmann (Indiana Jones and the Blade of Destiny) and Praya Lundberg (The White Lotus) have signed to star alongside Anthony Hopkins in Eyes in the treesa science fiction thriller that is a modern reinterpretation of HG Wells’ The Island of Dr. Moreauwhich we first reported on.

Ashland Hills (The magical faraway tree, The Crow) has also come on board to finance alongside BGG Capital. Palisades Park Pictures will begin worldwide distribution ahead of the Toronto Film Festival. The film is set to begin production in Thailand later this year.

Eyes in the trees follows a video journalist and his film crew on a journey into a remote forest, only to find that their excursion becomes a fight for survival not only for themselves, but for all of humanity. Vince Henway (Meyers) and his former protégé and ex Channing Arneau (Greene) lead their crew into the heart of Monkey Ko off the coast of Thailand. Known locally as the “Island of Death,” the island is home to rumors of forgotten government medical experiments and scientific genetic manipulation led by Dr. Addis (Hopkins). What the newcomers to the island find there exceeds their wildest expectations and is the product of their nightmares. Their search for answers quickly turns into a fight for survival as they attempt to thwart Dr. Addis’ plan to “regress” humanity and kill off most of Earth’s human population.

Timothy Woodward Jr. will direct from a screenplay by B. Harrison Smith, Mike Manning and Dominic Burns. The film will be produced by Daemon Hillin of Hillin Entertainment, Simon Williams of Ashland Hill, Artisha Mann-Cooper of Artman Cooper Productions and Manning. Landon B. Gorman of BGG Capital, Joe Simpson, Jonathan Bross and Tamara Birkemoe will serve as executive producers, with Jonathan J. Cooper and Jeremy O’Keefe serving as co-producers.

Meyers is a Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominee and is best known for her performances in series such as Vikings And The Tudorsamong others. Notable films include Walls, Albert Nobbs, August Rush, Mission: Impossible III, Match point, Vanity Fair And Michael Collins.
