The film follows Joshua (Cameron Arnett), an executive and eager entrepreneur who mentors Isaiah (newcomer Aspen Kennedy), an aimless high school senior and avid gamer searching for meaning in life. Isaiah’s background includes an optimistic single mother, Cynthia (Priscilla Shirer), and a father who is conspicuously absent from his life.
Through Joshua’s mentorship The Forge beautifully demonstrates the power of forgiveness, unconditional love, and the strength that comes from living in alignment with God-given purpose. Although Cynthia is deeply frustrated with her teenage son’s immaturity and selfishness, she remains true to her faith. Rather than resorting to criticism, emasculation, or supportive behavior that could damage his identity, she relies on her prayer circle and trusts God to create a breakthrough. With unwavering determination, she believes that the manifestation of change and the revelation of his true potential will come in God’s time.
Shirer’s heartfelt performance is as dynamic and powerful as her teaching in her ministry. She portrays Cynthia as a strong mother who embodies the beauty of lying at the feet of her Heavenly Father and allowing Him to reign sovereignly and without question. She also makes a guest appearance as Cynthia’s sister, reprising her role as Elizabeth from War Room. In this brief appearance, she emphasizes that prayer must be persistent – “pray until something happens.”
The Forge highlights that true discipleship is not about proselytizing, but living out your faith in a way that inspires others to do the same. As Joshua guides Isaiah, the film shows men stepping up and giving back by lifting others.
