The poster’s author explained that they had “spent over $1,000 on tickets” and decided to share their dilemma with the bride-to-be via private message.
The message read: “Hey, I booked my tickets and everything just three days ago because our agent knew and found something (I think the rest didn’t, no idea). I’m going to try to cancel but I don’t think I can. I understand space was limited for family and stuff so it’s fine, don’t worry.”
The bride-to-be responded, saying that “the hotel staff is not lenient on accommodations,” but that she might be able to “figure something out” if her friend is unable to cancel the plane tickets. However, the bride-to-be oddly asked the Reddit poster not to tell the rest of her friend group that she was trying to help.
The writer explained that the whole situation left them feeling “gross.” First of all, they said that they “feel so ashamed because I already told my friends and family that I’m invited to a wedding in a foreign country, and it’s so embarrassing to tell people that I’m not invited.”

They were also worried that their other friends would feel terrible because I was allowed to go (to the wedding) and they weren’t.
The author wrote that he wished the bride-to-be had at least sent wedding invitations to her friends, even though they couldn’t find room for her in the chosen accommodation. “I would understand and book my own accommodation,” the author wrote, asking other Reddit users to share their advice and opinions on the delicate situation.
Many commentators questioned the bride-to-be’s true motives, suggesting she might be using the lack of accommodations as an excuse to cut back on her guest list.
“Her reasoning makes no sense,” one person wrote, while another chimed in: “I think she invited way more people than she could accommodate and didn’t think that many people would actually show up for her overseas wedding.”
