8 people injured after shooting near Dominican Festival in Allentown, Pennsylvania

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) — Eight people were injured in a shooting near a festival in Allentown, Pennsylvania on Sunday.

Allentown police said officers were called to a parking lot in the 100 block of N. 7th Street at 6:46 p.m. after hearing gunshots.

According to police, officers found that several people were actively shooting at each other.

In a press release, Allentown police said officers engaged the shooters, but further details on their actions were not immediately available.

Neighbors say the shots could be heard a block away.

“I live up the block from the crime scene and was home when I heard the gunshots,” said Nashley Reynoso.

According to police, one of the eight victims required life-saving surgery.

The shooting occurred as hundreds of people gathered for the nearby Dominican festival.

So far one person has been arrested.

Yunior Peralta Quintana, 21, of Bethlehem, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and related offenses.

Allentown police said the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office is assisting in the investigation.

Meanwhile, a local aid organization was on site on Monday afternoon to spread its message of peace.

“We just need to do what we can together to advocate for safer gun laws and violence prevention in general,” said Zaleeae Sierra of Promise Neighborhoods of the Lehigh Valley.
