Medalist from the British team marries a few weeks after the Olympic Games in Paris

TEAM GB sprint star Matthew Hudson-Smith, who narrowly missed out on an Olympic gold medal this week, will marry his fiancée just weeks after the Games.

He had set out to emulate Eric Liddell in “The Hour of the Victor”, but failed by just 0.04 seconds in the 400-meter final at the Stade de France on Wednesday evening.

But despite his sporting woes, he will at least grab a gold ring this summer when he marries his long-time girlfriend Antonia Tyson in September.

She cheered him on in the crowd and wore a sparkling ring, even though their engagement was kept secret.

Antonia, who works in healthcare, also posted on Instagram calling Hudson-Smith her “future husband.”

The wedding is planned for September 29. A website has also been set up where friends and relatives can donate money to a “fund for newlyweds.”

The couple wrote: “We are so happy to have you with us on our special day! Your presence means the world to us and your love and support are the greatest gifts of all.”

“For those who would like to give a little more, we have put together a registry that will help us build our future together. We kindly ask that any additional gifts be sent to our home address.

“We really appreciate your thoughtfulness and can’t wait to celebrate this unforgettable day with you. With love and gratitude, Antonia and Matthew.”

On Wednesday night, Hudson-Smith admitted he had no idea his friends and family were in the crowd until he secured the silver medal.

After the race, he said: “My family is here. I didn’t know they were here, so it was a bit of a shock. I hate them watching me, and my parents don’t really watch me because they hate watching me as much as I hate them watching me. It’s crazy that they came. It’s been a hell of a journey.”
