Groom killed on Henry Hudson Parkway the day before wedding

Two men were killed in a serious accident on August 24 when a driver traveling the wrong way on the Henry Hudson Parkway crashed into their vehicle, police said. One of the fatalities, 38-year-old Kirk Walker, was due to be married the next day.

Kirk and his cousin, 40-year-old Robert McLaurin, were driving a Dodge Challenger in the northbound lanes at around 2:21 a.m. when they were struck by a 2017 Chevy Silverado traveling southbound. They were both pronounced dead after being taken by EMS to NYC Health/Hospitals Harlem.

Police are searching for the 31-year-old man who was driving the Chevy and fled the scene on foot. He reportedly had an unidentified passenger with him, who police quickly caught up with. He was not arrested but was treated for an ankle injury. Both men exited the pickup after it caught fire.

The suspect’s name has not yet been released publicly. He was driving the wrong way next to a Toyota Rav4, police determined, which was struck by debris during the crash. No one in the vehicle was injured and no arrests were made.

Another car traveling in the right direction was also involved in the accident. The driver of the pickup truck crashed into that car, an Audi, immediately after colliding with Walker’s Challenger. A 27-year-old driver and a 28-year-old passenger were injured. Both men are in stable condition after being taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.

In a heartbreaking quote to CBS NewsWalker’s fiancée Shauntea Weaver said this morning: “We should actually be at my wedding now. This is supposed to be a wedding at the Royal Manor, not a funeral.”
