Olympic champion humbly apologizes to his wife for losing his wedding ring: “Too much water”

Olympic champion Gianmarco Tamberi has humbly apologized to his wife after losing his wedding ring at the opening ceremony in Paris.

The high jumper, who famously shared the Olympic title in Tokyo with Mutaz Barshim, admitted that his ring slipped on an Italian boat on the Seine.

Tamberi, who is one of Italy’s flag bearers at the Olympics alongside Arianna Errigo, made a bold proposal to his wife after watching his ring fall into the water.

“I’m sorry, my darling, I’m so sorry,” Tamberi said on social media. “Too much water, too many kilos lost in the last few months or maybe the uncontrollable enthusiasm for what we were doing.”

“Probably all three things, just the fact that I heard it, that I saw it flying… I followed her with my eyes until I saw her hopping around in the boat.

“A glimmer of hope… But unfortunately, she jumped in the wrong direction, and after floating through the air more than a thousand times, I saw her dive into the water as if that was the only place she wanted to be.

“A few moments that lasted an eternity. But if that’s how it was, if I really lost that faith, I couldn’t think of a better place. It will remain forever in the riverbed of the city of love, flown away while I tried to carry the Italian tricolor as high as possible during the opening ceremony of the most important sporting event in the world.

“If I had to think of an excuse, I would never have been so imaginative. I think yesterday’s misdeed could have a very poetic side, and if you want, we’ll throw yours into the river too, so that they’ll stay together forever and we’ll have another excuse to renew our vows and remarry, as you’ve always requested.”
