Emilia Clarke takes on the lead role in the Peacock spy thriller series “Ponies”

Emilia Clarke is set to play a leading role in the spy thriller “Ponies,” which has been ordered directly as a series by Peacock.

The series comes from co-creators Susanna Fogel (“The Flight Attendant,” “The Spy Who Dumped Me”) and David Iserson, with Clarke not only starring in the series but also serving as executive producer.

The official description of the series is:

“Moscow, 1977. Two ‘PONIES’ (‘persons of no interest’ in intelligence jargon) work anonymously as secretaries in the American embassy. They do so until their husbands are killed under mysterious circumstances in the USSR and the two become CIA agents. Bea (Clarke) is an over-educated, Russian-speaking child of Soviet immigrants. Her accomplice Twila is a small-town girl who is as brusque as she is fearless. Together they work to uncover a vast Cold War conspiracy and solve the mystery that left them widows in the first place.”

Fogel will also direct the series, with Iserson serving as showrunner. Jessica Rhoades is executive producing under her Pacesetter Productions banner. Pacesetter’s Alison Mo Massey will executive produce along with Katherine Bridle. Universal Television will produce.

This is already the second television role that Clarke has announced in recent months. diversity In July, Clarke exclusively reported that the former Game of Thrones actress will also star in the upcoming Amazon series Criminal. She is, of course, best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in the eight-season HBO mega-hit series Game of Thrones, for which she received four Emmy nominations. Her other recent TV appearances include the Marvel Disney+ series Secret Invasion. Clarke’s film credits include Me Before You, Last Christmas, The Pod Generation, Solo: A Star Wars Story and Terminator: Genisys. She made her West End debut in 2022 in Anya Reiss’ adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull.

She is repped by CAA, Range Media Partners, Hamilton Hodell, Narrative, Hansen and Jacobson. Fogel is repped by UTA and Felker Toczek. Iserson is repped by UTA, 3 Arts Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson.

“Ponies” is the second spy thriller series that Peacock has commissioned this year. The NBCUniversal streamer had previously ordered an untitled spy project starring Simu Liu from executive producer James Wan.
