A 20-year-old woman was flown to the hospital with serious injuries after police say she was driving recklessly and crashed into a tree in a Cary neighborhood.

The Cary Police Department and Cary Fire Protection District responded to a car crash with injuries in the area of New Haven Drive and Montclair Drive around 10:15 a.m. Sunday.

Cary Deputy Police Chief Scott Naydenoff said the incident was an isolated accident.

The Nissan sedan, driven by Kelley Randle, 20, of Carpentersville, drove through the T-intersection and struck a tree.

Randle was the driver and only occupant of the Nissan, Naydenoff said, adding that speed probably played a role.

“We are still investigating the possibility of other factors that may have contributed to the crash,” he said.

Paramedics removed Randle from the vehicle and took her to the helipad at Mercyhealth Hospital in Crystal Lake.

A LifeNet rescue helicopter landed and flew Randle to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

She suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, Naydenoff said.

A neighbor who lives nearby said the vehicle was driving too fast and did not brake when turning.

Officers charged Randle with reckless driving, unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver, failure to obey a stop sign and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Her court date is scheduled for September 23.

The accident remains under investigation by the Cary Police Department.
