Attack on Titan movie: First trailer, plot details and everything else we know

The rumblings aren’t over yet, as Attack on Titan: The Last Attack is hitting theaters and we have all the information available.

To mark the first anniversary of the end of Attack on Titan, there is a complete theatrical version of one of the best animes of the 2010s. Eren, Levi and the Survey Corps take to the big screen for the mega evening that their story has always deserved.

If you’re hoping for a new installment, The Last Attack is unfortunately not it. Following in the footsteps of Demon Slayer, this is a compilation film that covers the final episodes of the gigantic war between the Titans and humanity.

But that doesn’t mean the feature doesn’t have something for everyone. Here’s everything you need to know about what’s coming.

When is the movie Attack on Titan coming out?

Attack on Titan: The Last Attack was released on November 8, 2024 in Japan. International release dates have not yet been confirmed.but we expect to see the film sometime in early 2025.

Anime films like this one usually hit American, European, and British theaters weeks after their Japanese release. The time difference allows the films to be properly subtitled and dubbed, and then both versions shown in theaters so anyone who wants either version can enjoy it.

Trailer for the movie “Attack on Titan”

The first teaser for Attack on Titan: The Last Attack came with the announcement in August 2024. It’s a short clip showing the carnage as the Survey Corps battles Eren’s Titans in a last-ditch attempt to prevent a complete disaster.

The scale of Attack on Titan season 4 has always been impressive. MAPPA has done everything they can to show the destruction and war. These scenes will look incredible on the big screen, re-edited and re-cut to maximize impact.

What is Attack on Titan: The Last Attack about?

In Attack on Titan: The Last Attack, the Scout Regiment confronts Eren after he unleashes the Rumbling, releasing the Wall Titans and threatening the entire known world. Mikasa, Levi and Armin lead the effort and face an apocalypse triggered by the genocidal Eren.

Attack on Titan: The Final Assault

The film is a re-edited version of the last four episodes of the fourth season of Attack on Titan. This coda was released a year after its original broadcast and is actually more in line with the original vision of storyboard artist and director of “The Last Attack”, Yuichiro Hayashi.

“When I originally drew the storyboard with the idea that it would be seen as one film, and to have the opportunity for everyone to see it in the best possible environment, which is the cinema, is a dream come true for me,” he said.

“We are also working on updating the graphics as much as possible. Experience the Rumbling in the cinema!”

This is the end … for now

Attack on Titan: The Last Attack puts a special spin on the epic story by restaging the conclusion on the biggest stage possible. With both the manga and anime finished, the cinematic adaptation was the final milestone for the franchise.

Attack on Titan: The Final Assault

Although there have been Attack on Titan films before, they were live-action spin-offs that were neither particularly well-received nor had the chance to make a big international splash. This will be the series’ first major theatrical outing, which actually could have happened much sooner had MAPPA chosen to go down this route.

Don’t expect much more than the occasional licensed release, like a clothing line or video game, in the foreseeable future. Attack on Titan burned extremely brightly for a decade, and now it’s time to lay the property to rest – just like Eren himself.
