New A24 horror film with Rachel Zegler is already being “bombarded with reviews”

Rachel Zegler is once again facing the wrath of her toxic fanbase as the Snow White star’s new horror film is bombarded with critics on A24 – four months before its release date.

For the uninitiated, Zegler was showered with hate last year after a 2022 interview in which she criticized the original Snow White went viral.

Since it was announced that the star will be starring in the upcoming live-action adaptation of the Disney classic, there has been a flood of angry comments from trolls, prompting her co-stars and Zegler herself to step in and put a stop to it all.

Although the reaction is nowhere near as great as that of 2023, the star’s upcoming A24 film, Y2K, has apparently been panned by many critics.

The new film, written and directed by former SNL star Kyle Mooney, is a retelling of the chaos and paranoia surrounding the Y2K bug at the turn of the millennium.

Set on New Year’s Eve 1999, the horror comedy film follows two teenagers who crash a party that spirals out of control as the world prepares for a possible technological disaster.

Although the film has received mixed reviews so far (at the time of writing, its Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes was 63%), internet users noticed a disturbing trend: even though the film had not yet been released, it was receiving negative reviews from viewers.

On Reddit, one person wrote: “People are vilifying a movie on IMDb that doesn’t come out for four months.”

“So the context is essentially that Kyle Mooney has a new sci-fi horror comedy called Y2K that hits theaters on December 6th, and today the trailer came out, which looks pretty good.

“Anyway, since Rachel Zegler is in the film, people are going to trash it just as much as The Acolyte.”

Another responded to the post: “Damn I thought you were exaggerating or maybe lying but then I looked it up online myself. 96 one star reviews for a movie that hasn’t even come out yet what the hell.”

A third added: “I don’t understand why they allow reviews before a movie is out. They should limit reviews to the first week AFTER release.”

It looks like Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb have actually taken measures to prevent haters from downgrading a movie’s rating for no reason, as the one-star reviews are no longer present on their Y2K pages.

“The Rotten Tomatoes link only has critics and it looks like it’s average,” one said, to which another replied, “Yeah, that’s because after Captain Marvel, Rotten Tomatoes removes all review bombing for a movie before its release.”

However, this did not stop the trolls from trolling, and A24’s trailer release was unfairly criticized on Facebook.

“I was excited about this movie until I heard Rachel Zegler was in it,” wrote one, while another commented, “Ruined by Rachel Zegler.” A third added, “Zegler is in it. Fits.”

There were just as many comments in response to the hate, including this person who said: “Imagine a 23-year-old hurting all these men in this comment section. Y’all are so weak.”

Y2K hits theaters on December 6. Until then, check out the horror movies to look forward to in 2024, as well as the best movies of the year so far. You can also read everything we know about Smile 2, 28 Years Later, and the movie Until Dawn.
