Yahya Sinwar’s survival strategy: Disguised as a woman in Gaza

Yahya Sinwar, Hamas’s highest-ranking leader, “disguised himself as a woman” while hiding among the Gaza population during his time outside the terror group’s tunnel network in the Gaza Strip. Daily Express was reported on Sunday, citing Israeli intelligence sources.

The New York Times reported on Sunday, citing American and Israeli officials, that Sinwar may have left the tunnels where he hid several times over the past year.

Sinwar has reportedly moved from place to place in the Gaza Strip to stay one step ahead of Israeli hunting attempts.

Sinwar is now the highest-ranking Hamas leader

Since his appointment as head of Hamas’ political bureau following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran at the end of July, Sinwar has been the undisputed leader of the Islamist organization.

In addition, Israeli forces targeted the head of Hamas’ military wing, Mohammad Deif, in July before later confirming the terror leader’s elimination.

The attack that killed Deif also eliminated the commander of the Khan Yunis Brigade, Rafa’a Salameh.

In August he spoke to the Israeli news channel MaarivAn Israeli security source estimated that Sinwar was gradually running out of hiding places as the Israeli offensive in Gaza weakened Hamas’s leadership and advanced further into the Gaza Strip.

It is believed that Sinwar relies on human couriers to obtain information and convey instructions. New York Times noted.

“Sinwar reportedly no longer trusts electronic communications because he fears that the Israeli army could find out his whereabouts and kill him,” the Emirati newspaper Al-Ain reported earlier this month.

In addition, the Arabic language Asharq al-Awsat reported that Sinwar insisted that his life be spared during ceasefire negotiations.
