Sheridan County High School Football: It’s time to watch some football in both Sheridan County and Wyoming as the first week of play in 2024 is upon us.

The Sheridan Broncs begin their season next Friday at home against Cheyenne South.

The team has been working for the past two weeks to figure out who is going where and put together a game plan.

Head coach Jeff Mowry says Sheridan is almost where it needs to be, and with it being game week and school starting tomorrow, the players will now be getting used to a more regular weekday routine.

Senior Chance Morris describes what a game week can sometimes look like and what the Broncs have accomplished over the last two weeks.

Kick-off on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Elsewhere in Sheridan County, Big Horn will play a home game against Natrona County’s sophomore team beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Tongue River will play a home game against the Sheridan JV team on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.


Sheridan HS Tennis: The Sheridan boys and girls won 3-1 on the road against the two Casper schools on Friday.

The boys won both games, while the girls drew.

The next scheduled tennis matches will be next Saturday when the Broncs and Lady Broncs resume North Conference play in Powell and Cody.


In high school golf, Tongue River and Big Horn started their season last Friday with a one-day meet in Sundance.

Eagle sophomore Easton Lewis took first place in the boys’ competition by 9 strokes.

TR and BH’s next performance is scheduled for next Friday in Moorcroft.

Meanwhile, the Sheridan golf teams’ next games are scheduled for this Thursday and Friday in Gillette.


Girls Volleyball/Cross Country/Swimming at Sheridan County HS: As for all other fall sports, competitions begin this week.

In volleyball, Sheridan will play at the Cheyenne Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Big Horn will play at the Douglas Invite, while Tongue River will play at the North Big Horn County Invitational in Rocky Mountain.

Arvada-Clearmont is scheduled to play in an invitational at Lingle-Ft. Laramie on Friday.

In Cross County, Sheridan, Big Horn and Tongue River will compete at the UW Invitational in Cheyenne on Friday.

The Sheridan girls swimming and diving team begins its season with competition in Gillette on Friday and Saturday.


University of Wyoming/Mountain West Conference Football: It is also game week for the University of Wyoming football team.

The Cowboys will play their first game under new head coach Jay Sawvel next Saturday at Arizona State.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Mountain Time.

Three teams from the Mountain West Conference started their season last Saturday.

New Mexico held a 31-14 lead at the start of the fourth quarter of its home game against Montana State, thanks largely to two defensive touchdowns. But the Bobcats dominated in the final 15 minutes, scoring 21 unanswered points, including the game-winning touchdown with 14 seconds left, to win 35-31.

Elsewhere in the conference, Nevada had its own problems in the fourth quarter.

The Wolf Pack led 24-13 at home against SMU after three quarters, but ultimately lost 29-24.

Hawaii won the season’s opening game at home against Delaware State 35-14.


Denver Broncos football preparation: The Denver Broncos improved their preseason record to 3-0 yesterday afternoon with a 38-12 home win over Arizona.

Backup quarterback Zach Wilson completed 16 of 25 passes for 251 yards and 2 touchdowns.

One to Nate Adkins, the other to Brandon Johnson.

Wilson also conducted one himself.

Audric Estime had a rushing touchdown and Levelle Bailey contributed a 94-yard pick-6.

Starting quarterback Bo Nix was not used.

All NFL teams must reduce their rosters to 53 players by 2:00 p.m. Mountain Time tomorrow.

Denver’s regular season begins on Sunday, September 8, in Seattle.


Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies lost two of three games against the New York Yankees last weekend.

On Friday they lost 3-0.

On Saturday, Michael Toglia hit a solo home run and Jake Cave added a 2-run shot and the Rocks won 9-2.

Yesterday Colorado lost 10-3.

With about a month to go until the end of the schedule, the Rockies are already locked in their sixth consecutive losing season.

The team has not won a game since 2018.

Today the Rocks start a 7-game home series, the first of four games will be against Miami.

The first pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m.
