Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, had a telephone conversation with Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, congratulating him on his appointment as Iran’s top diplomat and wishing him success, the Iranian Foreign Ministry reported.

The Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan pointed out his country’s desire to build friendly relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran on the basis of good neighborliness and expressed the hope that cooperation between Tehran and Baku would be further expanded in the new era.

Araghchi also thanked his Azerbaijani counterpart and stated that the development of friendly relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan on the basis of mutual interests is one of the priorities of the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Araghchi stressed that existing capacities must be used for this purpose.

During the talks, high-ranking Iranian and Azerbaijani diplomats also touched on regional developments in the Caucasus and discussed some international issues.

Both sides invited each other to visit Tehran and Baku and stressed the need to revitalize bilateral relations through continued exchanges of high-level delegations and consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Araghchi and Bayramov also stressed the continuation of cooperation between representatives of the two countries in regional and international forums.
