Wrexham not getting carried away after positive start in League One

Ollie Palmer says Wrexham will not get carried away after Phil Parkinson’s side’s positive start to the League One season.

The Red Dragons beat Reading 3-0 at the racecourse and are now fourth in the table after taking seven of the first nine points on offer this season.

But speaking straight after his side’s convincing win over the Royals, Palmer admitted his full focus was on Saturday’s away game at Peterborough United (3pm BST) rather than the club’s impressive August so far.

“It’s a good start to the season, but that’s all. We’re not going to get carried away and I know the coaching staff isn’t going to get carried away,” Palmer said.

“Of course you prefer a good start to a bad one, but after three games against three top teams in League One, fighting at the right end of the table, that’s all.

“We can build on that. We return to training on Monday and look forward to the away game in Peterborough.”

With the win against Ruben Selles’ side in North Wales, Wrexham continued their run of scoring the most home goals (68) of any team in England’s top four divisions since the start of the 2023-24 season.

But Elliot Lee echoed Palmer’s sentiments, saying the club would stay grounded after making waves earlier in the season.

“Everyone knows we had an incredible preparation last season, but it was a bit disorganized and disorganized and that was probably the reason for the sloppy start to last season,” Lee said.

“But this year we had a brilliant pre-season, were superbly organised, got started straight away and achieved three great results.

“When teams come here, it’s tough for them. (Against Reading) I think everyone was there and we felt it out there, one with the fans. We can make it really tough for the teams that come here and that’s what we’re going to do.”
