Harrisburg man charged with stabbing near homeless camp

A man has been charged after police said he openly admitted to stabbing another man during an altercation in Harrisburg on Saturday.

Kevin Clayton, 68, was arrested after police responded to a reported stabbing on South Front Street near a homeless encampment next to the I-83 overpass, according to a police affidavit.

According to the police report, the victim was being treated by river rescue workers when officers arrived, and a passerby had taken a photo of the attacker.

Clayton was found near the crime scene and looked exactly like the person in the photo, police wrote. When arrested, Clayton “freely admitted to stabbing the victim,” according to police, and an officer found a knife in Clayton’s pocket with fresh blood on the blade.

According to police charging documents, the victim was stabbed under the right armpit, which “possibly caused a perforated lung.”

The victim is expected to make a full recovery, police said on Sunday.

Clayton was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of an instrument of murder, according to court records. He is being held in the Dauphin County Jail pending a preliminary hearing on Sept. 10.
