What role would each member of the When the heart calls Cast in a future wedding of Elizabeth and Nathan? Pascale Hutton has ideas! Even though the two are not even engaged yet. But does that mean that wedding bells will soon be ringing for the couple? What can we expect from When the heart calls Season 12?

Will Elizabeth and Nathan get married in When the heart calls?

Pascale Hutton had many ideas for the characters’ future wedding, telling US Weekly, “I would love it if Rosemary would officiate.” And why shouldn’t Rosemary officiate? After all, Hutton has played Rosemary Coulter, best friend of Elizabeth Thorton (Erin Krakow), since the series premiered in 2014.

But jokes (and hopes and dreams) aside, Hutton admitted it was unlikely Rosemary would actually perform the wedding. “I think Joseph (Viv Leacock) is a solid pastor and he could handle it well.”

However, as a best friend, Rosemary would still play an important role, with Hutton noting that she would most likely be “more of a maid of honor and help plan the whole thing.” After all, in season 5, Rosemary was “instrumental in helping Elizabeth plan her wedding to Jack.”

Jack, played by Daniel Lissing, died in the season 5 finale after being trapped by a landslide.

Kavan Smith, who plays Rosemary’s husband Leland Coulter, told US Weekly that his role will likely be much smaller since he and Nathan haven’t had a chance to develop a close friendship yet. “Le seems to be friends with everyone in town, but he hasn’t really spent much time with Nathan yet. Which is weird.”

But there’s still time! “I don’t expect Le to play a big role in the wedding in the future, but I’m certainly open to them continuing to pursue this relationship on camera.”

Not that LeLand would miss the wedding. He would still be there, even if he might not be as busy as his wife. “Right now, Le is maybe showing people to their seats. That’s all!”

The series ended Season 11 with quite a cliffhanger that must be resolved before any weddings can be discussed. At the very end of the episode, Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) and Nathan Grant (Kevin McGarry) are approached by Superintendent Hargraves (David James Lewis). Hargraves was Nathan’s superior at Fort Clay and the man who suspended him from the mission that ultimately killed Elizabeth’s husband Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing). With Nathan having to sit out, Jack took his place on the mission and was tragically killed in a landslide. Feeling responsible for his death, Nathan was then transferred to Hope Valley to care for Elizabeth and their son.

This connection eventually came to light and led to the separation of Elizabeth and Nathan.

Nathan assumed Hargraves had come to see him, but it turned out he had come to Hope Valley to speak to Elizabeth. “I’m not here to see you, Constable,” he said to Nathan, before turning to Elizabeth and saying, “Mrs. Thornton, it’s about your late husband.” And the worst part was that the matter was urgent and needed to be discussed in private. In classic When the heart calls And then the credits rolled.

So before any wedding planning begins, fans would probably like to know what Superintendent Hargraves has to say about Jack Thornton. With that cleared up, perhaps Elizabeth and Nathan can start thinking about the future, and yes, maybe a wedding.

When the heart calls can be streamed on Peacock.
