DETAILS:
- The Riverside Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol, Riverside Branch, responded to a reported traffic accident on the highway.
- When emergency services arrived at the scene, they found a white Tesla with significant front-end damage, deployed airbags, and a driver who was severely shaken.
- According to witnesses and the driver, a semi-trailer truck was traveling north on 215 before losing a tire at the 215/60 intersection.
- The tire was traveling at high speed, crashed over the central barrier into oncoming traffic, headed south and crashed into a Tesla.
- The Tesla went off the road and came to a stop with significant damage to the front.
- AMR treated the driver on site; she was very shaken but had only suffered minor injuries.
- CHP was still trying to find the tire, but was unsure where it went after it hit the car.
- The tractor-trailer continued on the highway and CHP units made contact with at least two tractor-trailers that were several miles from the accident scene and pulled over to the side of the road.
- According to the CHP, this could easily have resulted in a fatal collision.
