Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk spoke to Sky Sports: “We’re all defending together, you can see how quickly we get behind the ball. It’s a good start and we have something to build on. We’ll have to see (what happens).”
Comparing the new coach Arne Slot with the former coach Jürgen Klopp: “The time with Jürgen was incredible and the time with the new boss is a joy. He has a certain way of playing. We are working a lot on so many good things and you see a lot, with and without the ball, which gives the team confidence.
“We have to – I don’t mean to say that we should forget the Jürgen era – but that is in the past. We had a great time and now it is time for the new boss to hopefully be successful.”
“That’s why we have to focus on that and not make comparisons and the like – in my opinion.”
“We don’t have any new players yet, but of course I have this extra responsibility because I know the players inside and out. I’m there for him (Slot) – I told him from day one that I’m going to help the players and the team behind the team.
“I want to be successful and we are in the same boat. That (now) carries an additional responsibility.”
On his future in the club: “I’m very calm. The thing is: I want to play the best season I can. I want to be important and remain important for the club, then we’ll see. Everything happens for a reason, but at the moment nothing has changed in my situation.”
“I’m taking things very calmly and there’s no reason for me to think about anything else. I still have a whole season to play.”
“I’m proud and (Anfield) is my home. It’s a special place and, as I said, whatever happens in the future, Anfield is a special place in my heart. Let’s see what the season brings.”
