HYDERABAD: Commissioner of Police Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy said the police have written to the director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) requesting him to issue Red Corner Notices against the two accused in the phone tapping case, T Prabhakar Rao and Shravan Kumar.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, the CP said the police have asked the CBI to expedite the process of obtaining the Red Corner Notice against the duo.

“We have also written to the US Consul General that the accused are misusing the visas of other countries,” he said. Sreenivasa Reddy noted that the police are waiting for the Red Corner Notice as the Blue Corner Notice is not as effective. “With a Blue Corner Notice, we cannot ask the US government to pick them up and hand them over to us, but with a Red Corner Notice, we can do that,” he added.

The top cop also pointed out that despite their efforts, the accused currently in jail will not be released on bail as it is a serious crime that violates the privacy of several people.

When asked whether notices would be sent to policymakers in this case, the CP said that they would definitely take the necessary steps as the case progressed.

He stressed that the investigation into this case is currently ongoing and the focus is on catching the fugitive defendant.
