ANCHORAGE (August 24) – Experienced outside attackers Katie Birtcil-Tipton And Bethany Tuchard combined for 18 kills and a .366 batting average to lead the Alaska Anchorage volleyball team to a 25-19, 25-19, 25-20 exhibition victory over the Seawolf Alumni at the Alaska Airlines Center on Saturday.
Junior libero Madison Galloway collected his team-best scores with 11 digs and four aces as UAA pulled away toward the end of each set.
The alumni team was led by outside attacker Anais Vargas (2016-17) with 10 kills and Siobhan Johansen (2010-13) with 15 assists, while middle blocker Isabel Evans (2022-23) had nine kills and three total blocks. Libero Taylor Noga (2015-18), who was part of the 2016 NCAA runner-up team with Vargas, collected 13 digs, the most points of the game.
Birtcil-Tipton, a New Mexico State graduate, hit a match-best .381 (9 kills, 1 error, 21 attacks) and made eight digs in her Seawolf debut, while the junior outside hitter Tia Allen – a transfer from Saint Martin’s – had four kills in seven swings and no errors, as well as six digs.
The Seawolves make their regular season debut with two games Thursday in Honolulu. UAA faces 12th-seeded and preseason favorite Pacific West Conference team Chaminade at 2 p.m. AST before traveling across town to play Hawaii Pacific at 8 p.m. AST.
