Fulham 2:1 Leicester City: What Steve Cooper said

Leicester City boss Steve Cooper spoke to BBC Match of the Day following his side’s defeat to Fulham: “I’m disappointed we lost the game. We were fully involved in that game. In reality, we were punished by the ruthlessness of the league. Our defensive tactics were not quite right – the positions were not right and we conceded the goals from there. Fulham took advantage of those two lapses.

“We were in the game the whole time. It looked like two evenly matched teams were competing against each other and seeing how the game would turn out. Unfortunately, it didn’t bring the right result for us.”

“We were playing our first away game at Premier League level, so there are positives to take away and a lot to learn. I just told the guys there to be disappointed that we didn’t take anything from the game, because we definitely should have. We have to get over it.”

On VAR intervention in Leicester’s goal: “It’s really a farce why it was stopped. I don’t want to talk about it anymore.”

About the new signings: “We want everyone to fight for their positions. To become a more competitive Premier League squad you need competition for places. The boys have to train well and play well to stay there and if they don’t they have to work even harder.”

On the question of whether he expects further new signings: “We hope so. There is hope, but I’m at the point where there’s a week left, so it is what it is. I’m in competition mode and we have enough to think about with the daily work.

“If we are in a stronger position when the transfer window closes, then great. If not, then we believe in these players.”
