Teenager arrested after 8 people, including children, hospitalized for stabbing near Taylor Swift-themed event: reports

A teenager has been arrested after eight people, including children, were hospitalized following a stabbing. The stabbing reportedly occurred near a Taylor Swift-themed dance and yoga class in the United Kingdom.
Officers responded to a property on Hart Street in Southport, a coastal town about 20 miles north of Liverpool, at around 11.50am on Monday, July 29, after receiving multiple reports of a stabbing, Merseyside Police said in a statement. Police added they “arrested a man and seized a knife”.
In an updated statement released later Monday, police confirmed that the man arrested in connection with the stabbing is a 17-year-old from Banks. Authorities did not identify him.
The suspect “remains in police custody and is being questioned about the incident,” police added.
According to BBC News The Telegraphand the Daily ExpressThe incident occurred near a Taylor Swift-themed yoga and dance class at Hart Space. The Telegraph reported that the course was advertised for children between the ages of 6 and 11.
The police subsequently stated that there was no longer any danger to the public.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the North West Ambulance Service said it had dispatched “13 ambulances and specialist crews” to the scene and treated eight people with stab wounds. The victims, whose ages were not disclosed, were taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Aintree University Hospital and Southport and Formby Hospital, the post said.

Alder Hey Children’s Hospital declared the incident a “serious incident” on Monday. In a statement, it said it was “working with other emergency services to respond to this incident” and that the hospital’s emergency department was “currently extremely busy”.
Authorities have not confirmed any fatalities.
“Horrible and deeply shocking news comes from Southport,” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a post on X on Monday. “My thoughts are with everyone affected. I would like to thank the police and emergency services for their quick response. I will be kept updated as the situation develops.”
