One of the most dangerous situations on the road is when a gravel truck gets out of control. This is especially the case when it is pulling two trailers full of heavy material, making it a veritable wrecking ball on wheels.
Thieves looted a semi-trailer truck while it was stopped at a red light.
The accident footage we shared comes from Lansing, Michigan, when a gravel truck crashed into a construction site on Highway 127. The whole thing was recorded by the dashcam of another semi-truck.
As the gravel truck enters a curve in the construction site, it loses control of its rear trailer and it ends up on the shoulder.
The driver likely panicked and overcorrected, causing the rear trailer to swing toward the median, striking an MDOT truck parked there and causing significant damage. Although two MDOT employees were in the truck at the time, one was completely uninjured and the other sustained only minor injuries.
While authorities concluded that drunkenness was not a factor in the accident, the driver of the gravel truck was charged with reckless driving. He faces a hefty fine, especially since the accident occurred in a construction zone. We wonder what his employer thinks of all this.
When you drive a large truck, you have to plan ahead and watch what’s happening on the road. You can’t just race through corners, stop in place and turn at the last minute. Everything has to be more deliberate, slow and planned.
For this reason, professional drivers can afford to be distracted even less than car drivers, who can’t really afford to be distracted at all. We don’t know if that was the case in this incident or if the driver was just going too fast and overconfident, but he definitely took the corner way too fast.
