Vegetation fire along Highway 173 near Highway 138 – VVNG.com

HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) – Firefighters battle a vegetation fire along Highway 173, east of Highway 138 near Hesperia.

Several teams were dispatched to the incident, known as the “Summit Fire.”

As of 3:30 p.m. Saturday, the fire was reported to be 3 to 20 acres in size, being driven north by winds, and spreading moderately to rapidly.

According to the units deployed on site, the fire could spread to an area of ​​40 to 60 hectares without posing an immediate threat to buildings.

Air support is already in place to fight the fire and two additional helicopters have been requested.

Smoke from the fire is visible for several kilometers and residents in the area report that they can smell the smoke.

UPDATE – The fire has now reached an area of ​​40-45 acres and is spreading rapidly to moderately.

UPDATE at 16:20 – Fire is now 67 acres in size. CAL FIRE’s San Bernardino/Inyo/Mono Unit is in command. San Bernardino County Fire Department is assisting. Summit Fire is burning in the area north of Forest. SBCF is assisting with: aircraft, 5 fire engines, 1 bulldozer, fire management, patrols.
