TikTok panic over deformation of the little finger on the phone: “We all got it”

They welcome the digital revelation.

Generation Z members are blaming their mobile phones for a serious new disease that sufferers say twists their little fingers and leaves permanent marks and unnatural gaps.

Nicknamed “Phone Pinky,” the syndrome refers to a bend, bump, or dent that sufferers say is caused by the weight of a phone resting on the fifth finger for long periods of time.

One TikTok user said she feared she had the “worst iPhone pinky finger” because she rests her device on her pinky.
She compared her mostly straight right little finger with her extremely crooked left one.

The condition has exploded on TikTok in recent weeks as twisted influencers began sharing and comparing their pinkies, sparking the viral trend that has over 163 million posts about it so far, Bustle magazine reported.

“I’m afraid I have the worst pinky for an iPhone,” TikToker kendall.rene complained to her followers in July, comparing both hands and showing how her phone fit perfectly in the crook of her deformed finger.

“There is a NOTICEABLE difference that I am extremely fixated on,” musician @Galalee wrote under a video examining her move.

“Time for a brain break,” Florida influencer Morgan Houghton wrote on TikTok after noticing the shocking dent on her right pinky finger, prompting her to put down her phone.

“We all get it,” one woman responded to Houghton’s post with a sobbing emoji.

TikToker girlboss4lyfe showed off her bent right pinky finger, which stuck out far from her other fingers.

“I think I’m winning this trend,” posted TikToker girlboss4lyfe, showing off her severely curved pinky finger that protruded far from the rest of her limbs. Her video received 1.4 million views.

The confessions have given some scrollers a real fright.

“I pulled my pinky out from under my phone so quickly,” one horrified person commented on girlboss4lyfe’s video.

However, experts claim that the anatomy of the little finger is very different – and that there is no official diagnosis for the phenomenon.

“It’s also possible that people who think they have a smartphone finger may have an underlying medical condition,” said Dr. Peter Evans, an orthopedic surgeon at the prestigious hospital.

Placing a phone on the little finger can pinch a nerve and cause numbness or tingling, he said. In addition, excessive cell phone use can cause a number of joint problems, including in the elbows and thumbs.

And many of the images shared do not necessarily indicate a problem, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

The disease is reminiscent of the “Blackberry Thumb,” which caused complaints of pain in the thumb and problems with motor skills when using the devices that were extremely popular in the early 2000s.

Some social media users took advantage of the trend to point out that they have hyperflexibility or an abnormality after a bone fracture.

Some practical tips to fix gripping problems include changing the way you hold the phone, using a phone stand, or attaching a PopSocket or similar attachment to the back of the device to make it easier to grip.

How long it takes for the condition to go away depends on how long someone has had it, one expert told Bustle. If you have serious concerns, you should consult a physical therapist who can suggest exercises and stretches.

The obvious solution is to limit screen time. According to recent studies, Gen Z spends more than six hours a day on their phones, while Millennials spend more than four and a half hours online.
