Mukti Mohan on “A Wedding Story”: From a fascinating title to a haunting reality

Mukti Mohan, a well-known dancer and actress, has ventured into the world of cinema with her upcoming film ‘A Wedding Story’. The film, which explores the disturbing intersection of marriage and horror, has piqued the curiosity of audiences and critics alike. The trailer, released in Mumbai on Friday, offered a glimpse of a narrative that promises to combine traditional romance with unexpected chills.

The film’s title, A Wedding Story, initially made Mohan expect a classic tale full of romance and drama. “When I got the call and they told me the title A Wedding Story, I thought it was a wedding story, there would definitely be romance and drama, but I wasn’t expecting any horror at all,” Mohan shared. Her first reaction was surprise, as the film’s premise took a turn towards the supernatural, defying the conventional expectations the title created.

Mohan recounts her first encounter with the film’s concept and describes it as a gripping experience. “I remember going through the text and not even being able to blink and thinking, is this even true?” she said. The film’s unique blend of genres not only fascinated her but also challenged her understanding of reality and fiction.

The narrative of A Wedding Story revolves around a seemingly happy marriage that quickly turns into a nightmarish scenario when sinister events start to haunt both the families involved. For Mohan, this was not just a role but an exploration of disturbing realities. “Forget Googling, my father is an avid reader and he knows everything about Geeta and when I asked him if this was possible, he said yes, it is true and this has been happening for a very long time and you cannot question it,” Mohan explained. Her father’s confirmation of the film’s premise added a layer of authenticity to her experience and further fuelled her curiosity.

Mohan’s personal journey with the film was marked by an internal struggle to come to terms with its disturbing themes. “Over time, I became so fascinated and curious about this subject, and then I experience it personally in my life,” she noted. The challenge of portraying such a profound and disturbing story required Mohan to deal with her own feelings of disbelief and turmoil. “You don’t expect something like this to happen to you, but when something goes wrong, how are you supposed to understand what’s real and what’s not,” she mused. This introspection was crucial to her portrayal of the film’s complex emotional landscape.

A Wedding Story features a talented cast including Mukti Mohan, Vaibhav Tatwawadi, Lakshvir Singh Saran, Monica Chaudhary, Akshay Anand, Dr. Plom Khurana and Piloo Vidyarthi. Directed by Abhinav Pareek and produced by Vinay Reddy, the film promises a unique cinematic experience. Shubho Shekhar Bhattacharjee wrote and produced the film under the production of Boundless Blackbuck Films.

Exploring the macabre in the context of a wedding, A Wedding Story promises a fresh take on the horror genre, combining emotional depth with eerie suspense. A Wedding Story hits theaters on August 30, and early reactions suggest the film will be a compelling addition to the genre.
