Texas Tech graduate and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes returned to his alma mater on Friday, August 23, 2024. During his visit, he toured the athletic department’s new facilities and celebrated the presentation of a personal donation to help make these facilities a reality.

Texas Tech Athletics announced Thursday that Mahomes made the final donation of the historic Fearless Champions campaign when he and his wife, Brittany, donated $5 million toward the $242 million South End Zone and Dustin R. Womble Football Center project.

In recognition of the gift, Texas Tech will name the soon-to-be-completed walkway at the Womble Football Center after him. The three-time Super Bowl champion will also be honored as the namesake of Texas Tech’s quarterback meeting room and the offensive coordinator’s office in the new South End Zone Building at Jones AT&T Stadium.

Mahomes’ donation brings Texas Tech’s fundraising efforts to $115 million for the south end zone and Womble Football Center project, surpassing the athletic department’s original goal of $100 million.

While on campus Friday, adidas and Mahomes also announced that they have signed six Texas Tech student-athletes to NIL contracts. The contracts come just weeks after adidas and Texas Tech announced a groundbreaking 10-year partnership that made adidas the official footwear, uniform, apparel and accessories partner of the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Micah Hudson (football), NiJaree Canady (softball), Jasmine Shavers (basketball), Matthew Comegys (golf), Sam Courtwright (soccer) and TJ Pompey (baseball) were greeted with a surprise visit from Mahomes and received personalized Mahomes gear.

Mahomes also made a surprise visit to the Red Raiders football team and unveiled new uniforms to the team that will be unveiled and worn later this fall.
