Police search for more suspects in Cherry Tree Lane massacre | RJR News

By Clinton McGregor

Clarendon Police Commissioner Shane McCalla says police are continuing to pursue those behind the August 11 Cherry Tree Lane massacre.

Eight people, including an eight-year-old boy, were killed when armed men entered the community.

Charges have now been brought against two of the main suspects.

The government has also set up a $25 million fund to offer rewards for information that may aid the investigation.

A state of public emergency was declared in the municipality.

Superintendent McCalla gave an update on the case.

“Since the SOE began, we have pursued a number of other individuals in addition to the two accused individuals and that operation is ongoing. And we expect that as the pursuit continues, more individuals will be apprehended in connection with this tragic incident and will be brought to justice shortly. So we just want to reassure the public that we are continuing the hunt for these men whether they are in Clarendon or outside the parish boundaries,” he explained.

As a result of the increased operations, a man was fatally shot in Clarendon on Thursday.

Superintendent McCalla has urged the suspects not to strike if confronted by police.

“I want to take this opportunity to appeal to those individuals who indulge in criminal activities. If we pursue them – which we will do – and then they decide to start a shootout with the police, I want to tell you that there can only be one outcome and I ask people to cooperate,” the senior police officer pleaded.
