Rain could affect Florida State’s season-opening game against Georgia Tech in Dublin
Rain, rain, go away.
Those are probably the four words Florida State fans will be yelling most often on Saturday, mixed between war chant and fight song. That’s because it’s entirely possible that the Seminoles’ season-opening game against Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland, will be impacted by inclement weather.

After all, it wouldn’t be football in August if it didn’t rain, so be sure to pack an umbrella unless it’s too late. The only positive is that Aviva Stadium will be much cooler than Tallahassee. Temperatures will be in the low 15s to high 15s throughout the day, including 15s at kickoff (5pm IST or 12pm EST), according to The Weather Channel.
The Seminoles and Yellow Jackets may have to contend with rain as the game progresses. Currently, the chance of rain is at 35% two hours before the game. The chance of rain increases right as the game begins, with a 34% chance of rain at kickoff and 50% an hour later. Precipitation should level off toward the end of the game, but keep an eye on the wind, as speeds are expected to be in the 12-15 mph range.
Fortunately, the amount of rain that is expected to fall should not soak the pitch too much, but it will still be interesting to see how the grass responds in a stadium that is normally used for football and rugby.
It’s also worth noting that the Seminoles recently had the opportunity to practice in the rain when Hurricane Debby passed through town a few weeks ago. The team took the opportunity to prepare for situations like this.
Florida State, ranked No. 10 in the country, enters the 2024 season with a roster that includes at least 40 new players. Despite the changes, the Seminoles still have a 10.5-point advantage over the Yellow Jackets and are even a -455 moneyline favorite, according to DraftKings.
FSU and Georgia Tech will kick off at 12:00 p.m. EST, and the contest is expected to be televised nationally on ESPN.
