Businesses near the University of Notre Dame prepare for move-in weekend

With students back on campus, places like Eddy Street Commons are preparing for an influx of new businesses in the coming school year.

As students return to the University of Notre Dame for the new academic year, companies are excited to see returning customers and new faces.

O’Rourke’s Public House in Eddy Street Commons says they are excited for the upcoming school year.

“We always get really excited about move-in weekend, and that’s obviously one of our favorite times of the year when it comes to football. We’re just busy and can’t wait for the students to come back,” said Amber Goddard, general manager of O’Rourke’s Public House.

It’s not just about getting students back, it’s also about generating revenue to support the business.

From a business perspective, Goddard believes that on-campus events are what her company is aiming for to be a successful income generator.

“We definitely rely on the influx of businesses that we see across the street from the university, anytime there’s a sporting event, anytime there’s really something going on, concerts across the street, housewarming weekends,” Goddard said.

When students return to campus, these companies offer them more opportunities to network outside of the dorm.

Students say this is a great opportunity to network and make new friends at the same time.

“Eddy Street is great! It’s almost an extension of campus. Lots of great places to eat, hang out and shop. A great place to be as a Notre Dame student,” said Charlie Brady, a senior Notre Dame student.

“It’s pretty elite between Chipotle and Blaze, Five Guys, you guys have triple that. It’s a really nice place to hang out as a student. And there’s a place that gives you more food options. Food is a big part of the mental lifestyle on campus. It’s nice to bring family and friends every now and then and just unwind,” said Josh Chen, a senior at Notre Dame.

The move-in for students will continue throughout the weekend.
