New film by Zoë Kravitz comes with trigger warning

Zoë Kravitz’s new film comes with a trigger warning.

Amazon MGM Studios’ “Blink Twice,” billed as a “psychological thriller about abuse of power,” has posted a warning on its social media accounts ahead of its August 21 theatrical release.

“We are proud to finally bring Blink Twice to audiences in theaters worldwide this week. While this is a fictional film, it contains adult themes and depictions of violence – including sexual violence. This may be disturbing or provocative for some viewers. Resources to provide support can be found at BlinkTwiceResources.com,” said a statement on the film’s social media accounts.

This post comes after the recent family drama It Ends With Us was criticized by some for not informing audiences about its content in advance.

The film, starring Blake Lively and directed by her co-star Justin Baldoni, included a message in the credits.

“If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available. Visit www.nomore.org for information and support,” it said.

“The film ultimately fails the survivors it is meant to advocate for,” wrote Bridgette Stumpf, founder and executive director of the Network for Victim Recovery of DC, in an essay for The Hollywood Reporter.

The film was guilty of “whitewashing the depiction of domestic violence in the marketing of the film” and “not providing any warnings about the content before the film began,” she continued.

“When we watched the film on opening night with a colleague in a packed theater, our first reaction at the end of the film was disappointment that no help was offered to the survivors after the credits. Later, there was an end-credits message, but it came after many had already left,” she added.
