Trump announces his message of “no tax on tips” during appearance at restaurant in Las Vegas | Nevada | News

Former President Donald Trump planned to present his campaign proposal “No Tax on Tips” at a restaurant in Las Vegas this afternoon.

Trump’s speech at the Il Toro E La Capra restaurant in the South Valley was scheduled to begin at noon.

For the Republican presidential candidate, this is the first visit to the city since his assassination attempt, immediately after the Democratic Party convention in Chicago and less than three months before the elections.

“President Trump and Senator (JD) Vance will fight to reverse the financial pressures on American workers, starting with NO TAX ON TIPS!” his campaign wrote about the appearance. “It’s time for the government to take its hands out of the pockets of those who are struggling the most.”

In June, Trump unveiled his plan in Las Vegas to eliminate the federal tax on tips, which would affect many in the Las Vegas restaurant industry.

Shortly thereafter, several bills were introduced in Congress. Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo sponsored the proposal, and Democratic Senators Catherine Masto and Jacky Rosen signed the bill in the Senate.

Vice President Kamala Harris followed suit and announced at her rally in Las Vegas earlier this month that she also supports abolishing the tip tax and raising the minimum wage.

The Culinary Local 226 union, which represents about 60,000 hospitality workers in Nevada, initially described Trump’s proposal as a “wild campaign promise,” but later called on lawmakers to support the bill.

Across the United States, tipped employees earn just $2.13 an hour, the union said. Nevada is one of seven states that prohibits wages below the minimum wage for these workers.

“The Culinary Union calls on Nevada’s elected officials to support the state’s ban on sub-minimum wages and taxes on tips,” Culinary Union Secretary-Treasurer Ted Pappageorge wrote last month.

The restaurant from which Trump is speaking combines Italian and Mexican cuisine. The name of the restaurant means “The Bull and the Goat”.

The owner could not be immediately reached for comment.

Trump’s appearance was not planned as a public event. He is scheduled to speak at a rally in Arizona later in the day.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
