The Transformers will soon appear in a way you’ve never seen them before: CG-animated. And as a bonus, without humans. With the September 20 release of Transformers Onewith Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry as Optimus Prime and Megatron, the long-standing multimedia Transformers Franchises always transform into new models with each cinematic appearance.
The Transformers The series began in 1984 as a toy and television show from Hasbro about two robot divisions, the Autobots and Decepticons, in a never-ending battle for power. The Decepticons conquer planets outside their homeworld of Cybertron, while the Autobots are sworn to protect Earth. Many characters such as Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and Megatron have appeared in different ways, whether animated in 2D, live-action or soon in 3D.
There have been nine Transformers films over the course of the franchise’s 40-year run. The original, based on the animated series (Transformers: The Movie); the live-action series directed by Michael Bay, nicknamed Bayformers (Transformers, Transformers – Revenge of the Fallen, Transformers – Dark of the Moon, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Transformers: The Last Knight); the historical reboot pieces (bumblebee, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts); and 2024 Transformers One.
This series may require more than just touch and power to follow, especially for newcomers interested in the bot tussle between Optimus Prime and Megatron before the new movie. Here’s how to watch all transformer Film.

Transformers: The Movie (1986)
Saturday morning television makes the leap to the big screen with the first ever Transformers film, and with a rocking Stan Bush soundtrack to boot. 20 years in the future after the second season of the animated series, the Decepticons conquer Autobot City on Earth. During Optimus Prime’s (Peter Cullen) showdown with Megatron (Frank Welker), he bites the Autobot dust. In the midst of a deadly war and power struggle, Hot Rod (Judd Nelson) and the surviving Autobots must emerge victorious against their new threat, Unicron (Orson Welles in one of his final roles), the planet-devouring Decepticon who threatens to destroy the Earth.

Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) buys his first car, but soon discovers that it is an alien robot that can transform into a warrior. The car, an Autobot named Bumblebee, puts Sam at the center of an intergalactic war between the Autobots led by Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) and the Decepticons led by Megatron (Hugo Weaving). With the help of his school friend Mikaela Banes (Megan Fox) and US soldiers William Lennox (Josh Duhamel) and Robert Epps (Tyrese Gibson), Sam and the Autobots set out to find an ancient device called the Allspark and prevent it from falling into the hands of Megatron.

Transformers – Revenge of the Fallen (2009)

Two years after Megatron’s defeat, Sam Witwicky is now in college and living a normal life. Meanwhile, the Autobots and humans form a strike force called NEST (Non-biological Extraterrestrial Species Treaty) to essentially search for and destroy all Decepticons. But when a Deception resurrects Megatron, he sets out to capture Sam, who has visions of ancient Cybertronian symbols that will awaken Megatron’s master, the Fallen (Tony Todd), the first Decepticon of gigantic stature. When the Fallen awakens, Sam must unite with the Autobots and save the world before the Fallen uses a machine to destroy the sun. Yes, the sun.

Transformers – Dark of the Moon (2011)

Optimus Prime and the Autobots discover that humans found a spaceship from Cybertron on the dark side of the moon when the first astronauts flew to the moon and kept it a secret from them. They meet Sentinel Prime (Leonard Nimoy), Optimus Prime’s mentor and former leader of the Autobots. When Sentinel Prime is revealed to be a double agent working with Megatron and planning to bring Cybertron to Earth, it’s up to Optimus, the army, Sam Witwicky and his new girlfriend Carly (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley) to save the world.

After the destruction in Chicago in The Darkness of the MoonNEST is disbanded, and humanity has declared a worldwide hunt for the Transformers: forget Autobots or Deceptacons, they’re all a threat. A new CIA black ops task force, the Cemetery Wind, led by Harold Attinger (Kelsey Grammer), emerges to bury the cloaked robots. A decommissioned Optimus Prime ends up in Texas, on the farm of failed mechanic and inventor Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) and his teenage daughter Tessa (Nicola Peltz). This puts the Yeagers on the radar of the Cemetery Wind, along with a Cybertronian assassin named Lockdown (Mark Ryan), who is tasked with hunting down Optimus Prime. Now that Optimus has come out of hiding, the Yaegers and Tessa’s friend Shane Dyson (Jack Reynor) must join him and the Autobots on a worldwide mission to uncover the truth behind the new anti-Transformers status quo and prevent a new Cybertronian invasion of Earth. Dinobots (yes, dinosaur Transformers) are also joining in on the fun.

Followed Age of extinctionOptimus Prime roams the cosmos in search of the source of his creators on Cybertron. Meanwhile, on Earth, Cade Yeager receives a mysterious talisman from an ancient Autobot. Another Transformers adventure awaits him, as he is soon brought together with Oxford professor Viviane Wembly (Laura Haddock) and British historian Edmund Burton (Anthony Hopkins), who tell him that Transformers have been on Earth for centuries, helping people with historical events from King Arthur to World War II. When an imminent threat to Cybertron arrives, Yeager and his new allies must join forces and save the world once again.

bumblebee (2018)

In his solo prequel/soft reboot, Bumblebee enters his Iron Giant era. In 1987, the Autobots are losing a war against the Decepticons on Cybertron. Optimus Prime sends his comrade B-127 (Dylan O’Brien) to Earth to await his arrival. He crashes in California, but after a confrontation with the Decepticon Blitzwing (David Sobolov), his speech apparatus and memory core are broken and B-127 ends up in a bad state. He hides out in a junkyard, disguised as a yellow beetle. Lonely teenager Charlie Watson (Hailee Steinfeld) buys the car for her 18th birthday and Bumblebee comes to life. The two soon form a bond. Iron Giant-style. Meanwhile, the Decepticons Shatter (Angela Bassett) and Dropkick (Justin Theroux) arrive on Earth and convince the human agents of Sector 7, led by Jack Burns (John Cena), that Bumblebee is a war criminal. Together they try to hunt him down.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023)

Set in the 1990s, this installment centers on Noah Diaz (Anthony Ramos), a former military man struggling to support his mother and younger brother. He decides to steal a Porsche, but it turns out to be a Transformer, an Autobot named Mirage (Pete Davidson). Mirage takes Noah to the Autobots’ meeting place, to the horror of Optimus Prime. This time, the Autobots face Terrorcons, a group of Decepticons intent on bringing the planet-eating entity Unicron (Colman Domingo) to Earth. Noah embarks on a global expedition with the Autobots, then teams up with aspiring archaeologist Elena Wallace (Dominque Fishback) and an animal-Transformer hybrid group called the Maximals led by Optimus Primal (Ron Perlman) to thwart Unicron’s invasion.

No people, no earth, everything alive. Transformers One tells the story of Optimus Prime (Chris Hemsworth), when he was Orion Pax, and Megatron (Brian Tyree Henry), when he was D-16. Before they became sworn enemies, they were once simple miners on Cybertron and best friends who aspired to be more than meets the eye. When they and other bots like B-127 (Keegan-Michael Key) and Elita -1 (Scarlett Johansson) discover and awaken an ancient Transformer, they gain the power to transform. Their newfound power causes a rift in the relationship between Orion and D-16, leading to them becoming enemies.
Transformers One hits theaters on September 20
The Transformers movies don’t end here, because soon the Autobots will say “Yo, Joe!”
That’s right, a long-awaited Transformers-GI Joe crossover is currently in the works. As hinted at the end Rise of the BeastsNoah Diaz applies for what he thinks is a security job, but it turns out to be none other than GI Joe.
Although nothing concrete has been decided yet, Transformers One Star Chris Hemsworth has been in talks about his role in the live-action crossover film, but when asked about his involvement at Comic-Con 2024, EW said it still seems to be up in the air.
“I don’t know yet,” Hemsworth said. “I get asked about it all the time. (Producer) Lorenzo (di Bonaventura) brought it up when I was making this movie … and we started talking about where the universe could expand and how much fun that could be. And look, I’m just all for great filmmakers, great scripts, great stories. There’s a lot of potential in this universe, both in the GI Joe franchise and the GI Joe series. world and to recreate the Transformers world, to try something different.”
Apart from the crossover, Rise of the Beasts is the beginning of a planned Transformers Trilogy. However, none of the upcoming parts have been announced yet.
