New technology comes to Louisa High School

LOUISA, Va. (WVIR) – A newly remodeled technology lab at Louisa County High School offers students unique opportunities to try out new technologies.

“What a great place for students to collaborate, think critically, be creative and do all the things you can do to really get off the beaten path and think about innovation,” said Doug Straley, superintendent of Louisa County Public Schools.

The IMPACT Lab is full of new technologies.

IMPACT stands for: Inspiring Motivated Practical Advanced Creative Thinkers.

“We have a laser cutter and engraver that is both a fiber optic and a laser engraver. This is a new cutting-edge technology that just came out this summer. We have computers here that can do video editing, graphic design and 3D modeling,” said Kenneth Bouwens, director of career and technical education at LCPS.

Students say the new lab gives them more space to be creative.

“I think Louisa is one of the best schools in the country in this regard and they are always trying to innovate for students and teachers,” said Owen Harper, a student at Louisa County High School.

Superintendent Straley says this new addition is just one way the school district continues to invest in the next generation of students.

“One of our goals is to keep moving forward, to keep innovating,” Straley said, “to get better at what we do.”
