“The end is nigh” for the legendary LA punk rock band, who say this is their last tour – and their last album

STATEN ISLAND, NY — Legendary punk rock band X, featuring lead singers John Doe and Exene Cervenka, founding members of the group that shaped the LA punk scene in the 1980s, will embark on a farewell tour this fall that will include two shows in Upper New York State.

But rumors say that this tour could be the last opportunity for X-fans to ever see the group perform live.

And now, four decades later, they released their ninth album “Smoke & Fiction” in August and announced the tour dates “The End is Near”.

“I hope people come to our shows because – I don’t want to sound weird – we might never play in your town again. But that’s the way it is every night, right?” Cervenka said in an interview with Billboard. “Just a reminder: Life is short, but it’s up to people to listen to the record or come see us if they want to. Or not. We’re really happy with this record. And that’s its own reward, no matter what happens.”

FYI, X is scheduled to perform at Empire Live in Albany on Sept. 25 and at Water Street Music Hall in Rochester on Sept. 26, syracuse.com reported.

Tickets for Albany are $38.50 at Ticketmaster, while tickets for Rochester are $49.36 at TicketWeb.

Fans can also search for tickets on VividSeats and StubHub.

MORE ABOUT X

X is considered one of the most influential American punk rock bands ever.

Their first two albums were named among the 500 greatest albums of all time by Rolling Stone, and X songs have been featured in films such as “The Kids Are Alright,” “Boys Don’t Cry,” “GI Jane” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” as also reported on syracuse.com.

Cervenka, who was married to Doe from 1980 to 1985 and to actor Viggo Mortensen from 1987 to 1997, confirmed that this would be a final tour, but said X may continue to perform afterward.

“Are we going to be traveling endlessly around America at this age, getting in and out of a van, getting in and out of the motel, back and forth to a club? Lugging up and down the stairs to the dressing room and lugging our gear and our suitcases around? No, no, we’re not going to keep doing that,” she told Billboard. “We’re going to do it until the end of the year and then we’ll reevaluate. We’re dreaming of festivals for next year and Little Stevie’s garage rock cruise in May. I’d be happy if we could do some festivals and stuff, but we’ll see what happens.”
