Pillen praises and calls on senators to work on solving property tax crisis during special session

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – Governor Jim Pillen issued a statement Thursday morning praising senators for their hard work during the special session to resolve the property tax crisis and urging others to find a solution.

Pillen said he appreciates the hard work being done in the state legislature to pass property tax reform for the citizens of Nebraska.

“These senators, representing all political camps and all corners of our state, are doing the right thing for their constituents by engaging in tough negotiations, sharing ideas in good faith and working with their colleagues to craft a compromise that works for Nebraska,” Pillen said. “Their commitment is all the more impressive considering it is moving forward under tremendous pressure from lobbyists seeking to protect loopholes for special interests at the expense of hard-working Nebraska homeowners.”

Pillen said he believes it is also important to hold elected politicians accountable at this time.

“An overwhelming majority of Nebraskans support lowering property taxes, limiting government spending and closing loopholes for special interests. Doing nothing is not an acceptable option for Nebraskans,” Pillen said.
