Qatar Airways expands on-board menu on selected routes to include caviar service

In-flight dining is rarely considered fine dining, but in recent years airlines have done their best to change that, with improvements including collaborations with celebrity chefs and fun treats like in-flight afternoon tea service.

Qatar Airways is now expanding its Business Class inflight menu with an exciting new caviar service on selected long-haul Business Class flights. This caviar service is available either on its own or as an addition to the various meal courses.

“The new caviar service can be enjoyed either as a standalone option or as part of the in-flight meals,” said Xia Cai, senior vice president of product development and design at Qatar Airways, in an email. “We have listed it on the menu as an appetizer with 15 grams of caviar per person. Caviar is best enjoyed on its own or with the accompanying side dishes, along with chilled vodka or brut champagne.”

The luxury caviar service, launched on board in select markets on August 15, includes Baeri caviar with Balik-style salmon, along with a variety of side dishes (such as crème fraîche, chopped chives, crumbled hard-boiled egg and onions), blinis and Melba toast.

This new menu expansion has been introduced on 13 Qatar routes, including those between Doha and Boston, Dallas, Hong Kong, Houston, London, Los Angeles, Melbourne, New York, Paris, São Paulo, Singapore, Sydney and Washington. “We are always striving to improve the customer experience on board. The 13 routes will allow us to understand popularity and acceptance to make informed decisions in the future,” said Cai.

The addition of caviar to the menu was intended to add something special to the often uninspired in-flight dining service. “The caviar service was created to enhance the customer experience and continue to exceed the expectations of our business class passengers,” said Cai.

So far, the caviar option has received great feedback. “Although this option only went live on August 15, we have received great feedback from our business class passengers on our caviar options,” Cai said.

While the caviar service is an exciting upgrade, this isn’t the first airline to offer this as an option. Emirates, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, Air France, Korean Airlines, Japan Airlines and Etihad all offer a caviar option in their first class cabin. However, this is generally a feature of the first class cabin – so it’s nice to see business class getting the first class experience.
