Body of British tech boss Mike Lynch recovered from doomed Bayes yacht, daughter still missing
The body of British technology magnate Mike Lynch was recovered from the wreckage of his $40 million yacht on Thursday, sources said, as rescue workers continue to search for his teenage daughter.
According to earlier Italian media reports, 59-year-old Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah had previously been found during a rescue operation off the coast of Italy.
However, the technology giant was found on Thursday, three days after its luxury ship sank during a violent storm off the coast of Italy, a source close to the rescue operation told Reuters.
His daughter was the only one of the six known victims of the tragedy who has been found so far.
“We would need a crystal ball to know when we will find the next body,” said Luca Cari, fire department spokesman.
“It is very difficult to move in the wreckage. It can take up to 24 hours to move just one meter,” said Cari.
The body of the ship’s cook Ricardo Thomas, the first confirmed fatality, was discovered shortly after the sinking of the Bayesian.
In addition to Lynch and his daughter, New York lawyer Christopher Morvillo and his wife Neda, as well as Morgan Stanley manager Jonathan Bloomer and his wife Judy, are reported missing. Lynch’s wife Angela Bacares and 14 other people – including a one-year-old child – were able to leave the sinking ship before it capsized.
