Fallen tree on Avenue A

Fallen tree on Avenue A

We received reader reports this afternoon about a vehicle that has a rather small Tree on the west side of Avenue A outside Village View between Fourth and Fifth Streets.

We received the following information from two readers who passed by the scene shortly after the accident at around 4:30 a.m. A vehicle traveling north on the A apparently made a U-turn, struck the tree and sped into the southbound lane. The vehicle (we understand it to be a model) was likely partially struck by the falling tree as the driver left the scene.

The tree fell on Avenue A and blocked nearly three-quarters of the roadway for about 10 minutes. Firefighters arrived and removed the remains from Avenue A with a chainsaw and threw the branches over the fence along Village View.

Fortunately, no one was injured. If you have any further details about the accident, please let us know.

We have another reader report (and it was not such a small tree) …

According to an EVG reader:

A black pickup truck, reportedly a Honda Ridgeline, hit a parked car on the east side of Avenue A, accelerated and shot across the road, uprooting the tree and breaking it in two. The bed of the pickup truck flew open and its contents were hurled against the Village View fence.

The driver sped off and turned left (east) onto Fourth Street. Thankfully, he spared our beloved Key Food. Some passersby took photos of the truck and showed them to the police. I don’t know if anyone remembered the license plate. The open tailgate blocked my view.
