Burnt human remains discovered near homeless camp

The burned remains of a person were discovered near a homeless camp in San Jose on Monday afternoon.

Police said patrol officers were called to the area of ​​Roberts Avenue and Vintage Way on a “suspicious circumstance” after a person called and said the remains of a relative were found burned near a homeless encampment around 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Authorities said preliminary evidence at the scene suggests the victim was murdered. Police did not identify the victim and it is unclear how he died.

The motive for the murder is also still unclear. The police also did not provide any information on whether the person died at the crime scene or whether his remains were taken there.

The San Jose Police Department’s homicide unit is investigating.

The victim is considered the 21st murder case in San Jose in 2024.
