Brinks truck driver shot during attempted robbery on Cleveland’s east side

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A Brinks truck driver was shot and killed in Cleveland’s Glenville neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting occurred around 1:25 p.m. near the intersection of East 105th and St. Clair Avenue.

Police said they were alerted to the shooting through the Shotspotter system in the area and several 911 calls.

When officers arrived at the scene, they learned that a 65-year-old truck driver had been shot by Brinks and had driven himself to the Cleveland Clinic.

According to police, about four men approached the victim during an attempted robbery. During the altercation, shots were fired, hitting the victim. The suspects then fled in a vehicle.

Cleveland Police officers immediately began searching the area for the vehicle and located it a short time later. Officers attempted to stop it, but it fled.

After a short chase, the suspect’s vehicle collided with another car near the intersection of East 169th and Lakeshore BLVD in Cleveland.

The suspects fled from the vehicle, three of the four male suspects were arrested and a firearm was confiscated.

The driver of the car the suspects collided with, a 19-year-old woman, was not injured.

According to police, the shot truck driver from Brinks is in stable condition.

Brinks issued the following statement regarding the shooting:

“We are aware of the incident in Cleveland and are working with local authorities to understand what happened. Our top priority is ensuring the health and well-being of our employees and the public. We are working with law enforcement and encourage you to contact appropriate law enforcement authorities for more information regarding the incident.”
