Director of Despicable Me 4 explains the film’s confusing ending

The last scene in Despicable Me 4 felt like the end of an era, as every villain from the franchise danced along with the Minions to Gru’s rendition of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.” Director Chris Renaud recently spoke about the finality of the scene, saying that it was intentional, but likely wasn’t the end.

Look, I can only speak for myself, and I was a big part of the development of that scene and how it came about, and for me, yesRenaud told ComicBook when asked if this moment served as a swan song for the franchise. “I know that Despicable Me 4 in the theater is going so well. You have already Minions 3. But I thought it would be an interesting opportunity, given the 15… heck, 16 or 17 years that I’ve personally worked on bringing together some of the characters from across the universe for this big moment..”

How to watch the Despicable Me series in the correct order

As the Despicable Me series continues to grow, it has become increasingly difficult to keep track of where and in what order you can watch the films.

Renaud explained that it was essentially a “fun reunion/crossover,” similar to the cameos in Deadpool and Wolverine“It’s something in the language,” the filmmaker added. And so, for my part, I have to admit that I thought that way, but I was also fully aware that it probably wouldn’t be that way. But I think what I would say is that’s the interesting thing about these characters. There’s always a way to reinvent them.”

The characters from Despicable Me are timeless

After comparing the Despicable Me franchise To Batman and how director Matt Reeves recently reinvented Bruce Wayne, Renaud continued, saying: “I think the beauty of worlds like this is that there’s always the possibility for these characters to come back to life, just because of their nature.. They’re animated, they’re drawn. You know what I mean? I had that in mind when we did it. I was also fully aware that it didn’t necessarily correspond to reality.”

Review of “Despicable Me 4”: A lively, chaotic film mix

Despicable Me 4 is Gru and the Minions’ most ambitious adventure yet. It’s also the most chaotic and unfocused film in the Illumination series.

Although he is open to seeing Gru and the Minions have further adventures, Renaud previously said he hopes the franchise never ventures into live-action films.God, I hope not. That is my answersaid the director when asked if that was possible. “I mean, if there were talks, I wasn’t privy to it. But to me, what makes the world is that it’s animated and allows us to get away with what we get away with,” he added.

According to the official summary Despicable Me 4 follows “the world’s most popular supervillain turned anti-villain league agent, his wife Lucy, the Minions and their girls as they welcome Gru Jr., who is out to torment his father, into the family. Their lives are turned upside down when a new arch enemy appears and forces the family to flee.”
