The truck detour begins on Route 463 (Horsham Road) West at the five-point intersection in Montgomery Township.

KING OF PRUSSIA – A detour has been established for westbound truck traffic on Route 463 (Horsham Road) as part of a $14.2 million project to improve traffic and safety at the intersection of Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike), Route 463 (Horsham Road/Cowpath Road) and Business US 202 (Doylestown Road), commonly referred to as the Five-Points Intersection, in Montgomery Township, PennDOT announced.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

From August 19 through spring 2025, trucks traveling westbound on Route 463 (Horsham Road) will not be able to make right turns onto Business US 202 (Doylestown Road) due to reconstruction and widening work at the intersection. During the detour, trucks traveling westbound on Route 463 (Horsham Road) will be directed to use US 202 Parkway and County Line Road.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling near and through the work zone as congestion and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

According to PennDOT, a temporary closure of the Five Points Intersection is planned on August 25 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day due to the removal of large traffic signs.

As part of this intersection improvement project, the PennDOT contractor will add additional through lanes at the intersection approaches in both directions on Route 463 (Horsham Road/Cowpath Road) and southbound Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike). The roadway widening will create 18 lanes to the intersection, compared to the existing 15 lanes, to improve traffic flow and reduce accidents.

Other improvements include upgrading and retiming signaling, installing sidewalks, ADA curb ramps and guardrails, upgrading stormwater drainage, signage and pavement markings, adjusting driveways, and reducing erosion sediment.

In addition, intersection improvements on Route 463 (Horsham Road/Cowpath Road) and Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike) will improve traffic flow for motorists traveling westbound on Horsham Road and turning right onto Business US 202 (Doylestown Road) northbound, PennDOT said.

Road-Con, Inc. of West Chester, Chester County, is the general contractor for this project, which is 100 percent federally funded. For more information, visit the Five-Points Intersection Improvement Project webpage.
