– The IU Indianapolis women’s soccer team begins the second week of the regular season this week, while the Jaguars travel to Lindenwood (Aug. 22) and Southern Illinois (Aug. 25) for a pair of non-league games. The Jaguars opened the season last Thursday in wet, rainy weather with a 1-1 home draw with Toledo.

Head Coach Chris Johnsonin his 22nd season at the helm of the program, used 17 different players in the opening games, including three (Bethany Hartigan, Maggie Mattek, Bernadette Wismann) make their college debut. Hartigan was the only freshman in the starting lineup, while the graduate transfer Maia Ransom had an impressive debut at IU Indy, playing all 90 minutes and contributing an assist on the team’s only goal. Caroline Kelley scored the first goal of the season in the 11th minute after assists from Emma Frey and Ransom. Frey, who missed all of last season, made a triumphant return to the lineup and also played all 90 minutes.

senior Ashton Kudlo was in goal for the 34th time in her career and saved five shots in the opening game.

EXPLORE LINDENWOOD: Lindenwood has a 1-1 record this year, winning 3-1 at Belmont before losing 2-0 at Omaha. Mackenzie Compton is the Lions’ best player with a goal and an assist, including the game-winner at Belmont. Jordan Hollingsworth has played all 180 minutes in goal and has a 1.50 goals-against average and eight saves in two games.

EXPLORE SOUTHERN ILLINOIS: SIU starts the season 0-0-2 this week after winning road games at Jackson State and UT Martin. McKensey Bunch scored both of SIU’s goals in a 2-2 tie at Jackson State. Fabiano Solano has played all 180 minutes in goal, has a 1.00 goals-against average and nine saves on the season.

SERIES RESULTS: IU Indy has a 1-0 overall record against Lindenwood after defeating the Lions 3-1 in Indianapolis last season. The Missouri native Avery Bangert scored a goal and an assist as a substitute in this victory and Emma-Antoine also scored a goal and an assist. The Jaguars have an overall record of 2-0 against SIU, including a 2-0 win in Indy last season. Antoine and Lindsey Castillo each of them had assists in this competition.

Next: The Jaguars will make a two-game trip out West to face Idaho (August 29) and Montana (September 1), with both games airing on ESPN+.
