Adam Driver accuses of an egomaniacal utopian vision of the future

Adam Driver plays a visionary genius who sets out to save New York City by building a utopian, idealistic future while ousting a ruling elite in the official trailer for Francis Ford Coppola’s self-financed film “The Last Man.” big city, which fell on Wednesday.

“Don’t let now destroy forever,” says Driver’s character Cesar Catilina from his office in the Chrysler Building about his hopes for humanity in the event film that reimagines the Roman Empire in modern America on the brink of ruin. To realize his vision, Cesar must battle pragmatic Mayor Franklyn Cicero, played by Giancarlo Esposito.

Cicero inherited a financial disaster from the previous administration and now wants to build a casino complex to increase the revenue of modern New York City. And torn between Cesar and Cicero is Julia Cicero (Nathalie Emmanuel), the mayor’s independent-minded daughter, who faces divided loyalties.

The latest trailer underscores the scale and ambition of Coppola’s passion project, showing Madison Square Garden being transformed into a colosseum with gladiator fights and chariot races. “In many ways, Cesar’s mission, both noble and egomaniacal, seems a direct reflection of Francis Ford Coppola’s dogged determination to make this film at any cost,” The Hollywood Reportersaid David Rooney in his film review.

The Hollywood director first began writing Big city Shot in 1983, the film cost $120 million to produce, financed in part by the sale of a sizable portion of the director’s wine empire. Megalopolis hits theaters on September 27, thanks to Lionsgate and Imax, after Coppola’s latest film premiered at Cannes and had its North American premiere in Toronto.
