US women’s volleyball team plays for gold medal, defeats Brazil in semifinals – NBC New York
The United States moved one step closer to defending its gold medal title in women’s volleyball after defeating Brazil in five sets in the semifinals of the Paris Olympics on Thursday.
The USA needed five sets to win 3-2 with a total score of 106-99, which shows how close the game was against rival Brazil.
After beating Poland in the quarterfinals, the USA faced Brazil, a medal favorite who won silver in Tokyo, but in the end the team was no match for the defending champions.
The United States has won a medal at each of the last four Games (gold in 2021, silver in 2008 and 2012, bronze in 2016).
The semifinals were a back-and-forth match, with the USA winning the first, third and fifth sets and Brazil winning the second and fourth sets.
The USA will play against the winner of the semi-final match between Türkiye and Italy.
