Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck after two years of marriage. The couple has been the focus of separation speculation for months. Reports of a split first surfaced in May of this year. For most of the summer, the two lived separately, with J-Lo living mostly in New York while Ben remained in Los Angeles.
According to court documents confirmed by Sky NewsJ-Lo has officially filed for legal separation from her husband of two years. She filed the papers on Tuesday, August 20 – one of the couple’s wedding anniversaries – exactly two years after their wedding in Savannah, Georgia. Bennifer famously had two weddings in 2022; a month before their lavish ceremony in August of that year, they officially tied the knot on July 16, 2022 in a small, intimate wedding in Las Vegas.
According to official court documents, J-Lo listed April 26 as the date of their separation and, according to TMZ, the papers confirm that the couple did not sign a prenuptial agreement before the wedding.
J-Lo and Ben delighted fans when they rekindled their relationship in 2021, twenty years after calling off their wedding. The couple had been together between 2002 and 2004 and although they got engaged, they decided to end their relationship after two years. In interviews, Jennifer called their reunion a “beautiful love story” and released a film and album together earlier this year. This is me…now: A love storywhich was widely interpreted as a tribute to their relationship.
However, there were reports that Bennifer had separated from him when Ben moved out of their shared house in June and bought a new apartment in Los Angeles, while J-Lo was reportedly “humiliated” by the split.
A source said PEOPLE that she was “really trying to make it work and was heartbroken,” adding, “The kids are their top priority, as they always have been.”
